Diese wunderschöne Provinz, besser Staat, fasziniert mich "in extremo", mein Freund Bruce hat schon mal die Scenic Highlights für uns rausgesucht, wir Ihr seht - sie stammen vom Eisenbahnprofi:

#1 is Duluth-Superior. Plenty of trains, ore boats, ocean vessels, harbor
tours, two train tourist rides, Lake Superior Museum of Transportation,
Duluth Ship Museum, and Aerial Lift Bridge (not railroad). And a shopping
district for the wives.
Also three scenic bicycle trails made from old railroads.
A tour group might arrange for an extended harbor tour to more than just the
closest iron ore docks. Even from the standard harbor tour you can see
railroad activity that can't be seen from land.
It might be possible to arrange for a tour of the Midwest Energy Terminal,
where Montana coal is re-loaded to boats.

Consider the Hibbing, Minnesota, Iron Ore Museum and the surrounding
area. Also consider the train ride that originates in Spooner, Wisconsin. Very
good to railfans.

#2 is La Crosse and the Mississippi River. Especially the first 30 miles
south of La Crosse. The river, bluffs, trains, and highway can be very
scenic. Watch barges while waiting for trains. Easy driving.

#3 is the tourist railroad operating from Osceola. Has scenic bluffs and a
drawbridge. Might even see a ballast train come by while waiting for the
tourist train.

#4 is to ride Amtrak from Wisconsin Dells to the Twin Cities. At one time,
this was considered to be one of the 'ten best' scenic Amtrak rides. See
rock bluffs and very good views along the Mississippi River. And meet and
pass real trains, too.

#5 is in Minneapolis, Minnesota; the Como-Lake Harriet Trolley Museum. And
they have a steam yacht on a lake. The rest of the Twin Cities can be
interesting, but a local driver or guide would be useful in these big
cities.

#6 is Wisconsin Rapids. Mainline trains of the Union Pacific and Wisconsin
Central pass through. Maybe has more interest to me because I remember what
it used to be before some track was abandoned. What is left has interesting
curves and jogs. Scenery varies from tall forest to flat cranberry bogs.
Several switch engines are in use at the local paper mills, but security is
getting tighter and prevents easy viewing.

#7 is Appleton and south to Slinger. Many trains, scenic glacial hill
country, and many roads with easy driving.
